New North Carolina Food Code

If you have been to a restaurant lately, you may have noticed a few changes since the implementation of the NC Food Code. The NC Food Code is based on the national FDA standard Food Code. North Carolina joined the 47 other states that currently use the national standards to inspect food service facilities by passing the new rules in July 2012. The changes you may notice as a consumer includes bare hand contact of ready-to-eat foods is no long allowed and inspection scores above 100 are no longer possible. In the past, if a food service manager passed a food safety test, the establishment would receive 2 extra points on its sanitation score. Now the manager is required to have food safety training. If he/she does not, points will be deducted starting in 2014. Click here to continue reading
